The winter of 2012 was a cold one. The rain battered the road outside The Castle as we threw the gear into the venue. A small place, the capacity not much above 100, was actually a welcome break from some of the larger venues I'd been use to doing. This tour was going to be filled with a lot of those types of venues.
I suppose the hardest thing about going back to smaller venues is that everything is a little too much on the 'that'll do' side. I mean to say that the normal level of effort you'd put in to doing a show is compromised because of things like having the doors open half an hour after you've got there. But, it's good to get back to basics once every while and just get on with the music.
Touring on this level can be very vexing. Not just from a production view point, but also from a personal one too. It takes a lot to spend such a long time in small spaces with the same people. But I suppose that is part of the job.
